Your first day, connected

The four moments when a working line changes the day.

  1. At Da Nang airport

Switch the eSIM on inside the terminal. The city is close, but the pickup point still needs a map and the app needs data.

  2. My Khe beach

Check in, then walk. Pin the hotel before the first swim; the beach road runs a long way.

  3. Ba Na Hills

Screenshot the ticket and the cable car times. The hills are where the signal starts to thin.

  4. Hoi An or Hue

Load the route before the Hai Van pass or the road south, and keep the booking offline.

Where the signal matters in Da Nang

A guide to the places the phone will be asked to work, and what to download before you get there.

Da Nang airport

Strong

A strong connection in the terminal and at the kerb, which is exactly where a ride app needs it. Turn the eSIM on before you walk out.

My Khe beach

Strong

4G along the beach road and in the cafes, with 5G in parts of the city. Good for a call, a map or an evening booking.

Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge

Mixed

Coverage at the base and in the main squares, thinner on the bridge and in the gardens when the cloud sits low. Save the ticket and the return time.

Son Tra peninsula

Mixed

The road around the peninsula has signal in the open and gaps in the forest. Download the map before the loop, and do not count on a live route at the viewpoint.

From the airport to the beach

Da Nang International Airport is one of the closest in Vietnam to its city: about 3 to 5.5 km to the centre, and Da Nang Tourism puts the ride at 10 to 17 minutes. Vietnam Airlines lists a taxi at about 60,000 to 100,000 VND and a ride-hailing car at about 40,000 to 130,000 VND. City buses 6 and 12 cost 8,000 VND and take 30 to 45 minutes, with a stop a 5 to 10 minute walk from the terminals.

Ride-hailing is the easy option and the one that needs data first. Grab, Be and Xanh SM all operate here, and Xanh SM runs electric cars and motorbikes. Switch the eSIM on inside arrivals, then walk out with the app already open.

  • Turn the eSIM on before the kerb; the app cannot find a driver without it.
  • Keep the hotel address in Vietnamese, including the beach road name.
  • For Hoi An, about 29 km south, book the car before you land or use the app at the airport.

Ba Na Hills, the pass and day trips

Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge sit in the hills west of the city, where cloud and crowds both arrive quickly. The Marble Mountains are about 15 minutes from the centre, and My Son Sanctuary is about 40 km from Hoi An. Each is a day out with its own signal gaps.

The Hai Van pass and the coastal railway north to Hue are the other classic run. The train cuts through tunnels in the rock, which is why the ticket and the route belong on the phone before you board rather than in a live search on the way.

  • Screenshot the Ba Na Hills ticket and the last cable car time.
  • Download the Da Nang and Hoi An area for offline maps; offline mode covers driving only.
  • Save the My Son ticket and pickup point before the road out of town.

Questions before you fly

How far is Da Nang airport from the city and from Hoi An?

Is there signal at Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge?

At the base and in the main squares, yes. On the bridge and in the gardens it thins, especially when cloud sits low. Screenshot the ticket and the last cable car time before you go up.
