Nha Trang is a beach city on the south central coast, with a long bay and a string of islands offshore. The airport is well outside town, so sorting out data before you land makes the first hour easier. Figures below are as of September 2026.

Staying connected: SIM or eSIM
You can buy a physical SIM at a kiosk at Cam Ranh airport or at a carrier store. Bring your passport, because the SIM has to be registered to you.
An eSIM saves the queue. VietSim sells prepaid eSIMs on Viettel, VinaPhone and MobiFone. You get the QR code on screen after paying, install it at home with the eSIM setup guide, and switch the line on when you land, as described in activating on arrival. All three carriers cover Nha Trang. As of July 2025, the ministry in charge of telecoms reported 4G coverage for 99.8 percent of Vietnam’s population. That is a population figure, so it says little about signal on a boat. For how the networks differ, see Viettel vs VinaPhone vs MobiFone.
Island hopping
Vietnam Tourism describes day trips around Nha Trang Bay to islands such as Hon Mun, Monkey Island and Yen Island, and suggests speedboat tours for island hopping. The Khanh Hoa tourism portal lists tours to Hon Mun, Hon Tam and Hon Mieu, with a minivan pickup from your hotel to the boat.
Before a boat day:
- Screenshot your booking, the pickup time and the operator’s phone number.
- Download an offline map of Nha Trang Bay.
- Keep the phone in a dry bag. Data is not much use if the phone gets wet.
Arriving at Cam Ranh airport
Cam Ranh International Airport is about 35 km from Nha Trang city centre, according to Vietnam Airlines, and the ride takes about 45 to 60 minutes depending on how you travel.
- Bus 18: runs from the airport through the Cam Lam area into the city and on to Nha Trang Station, taking about 50 to 60 minutes.
- Taxi: about 250,000 to 350,000 VND, about 45 to 50 minutes. Vietnam Airlines names Mai Linh and Vinasun among the taxi companies.
- Ride-hailing: also about 250,000 to 350,000 VND. Cars pick up at the arrival halls, and the app needs mobile data, so turn your eSIM on before you walk out.

Getting around Nha Trang
Taxis are widely available in the city, according to Vietnam Tourism. Grab lists Nha Trang among its Vietnamese locations, and Xanh SM started electric taxis here in 2023, one of its first five cities after Hanoi.
For sights outside the centre, such as the mud baths or Po Nagar Cham Tower, Vietnam Tourism suggests motorbike tours or cycling. The apps to install page covers the ride and payment apps to set up before you fly.
Practical phone tips
- Offline maps: Download the Nha Trang area in Google Maps over Wi-Fi. Offline, Google Maps gives driving directions only, with no walking or transit directions, and saved areas expire after a while.
- Hotspot: Sharing your data depends on the carrier and plan supporting Personal Hotspot. Check before you plan to work from a beach cafe on one plan; see the FAQ.
- Card payments: Hotels, tour operators, restaurants and grocery stores generally take international cards. Street vendors and small purchases are cash.
- One connection for a group: compare pocket Wi-Fi or eSIM.
If the line shows signal but no data, try not connecting.
