Phu Quoc is an island off the south coast, with Duong Dong as its main town and the An Thoi islands to the south. Beaches, the town and the ports are spread around the island, so a working data line for maps and ride apps matters. Figures below are as of September 2026.

Staying connected: SIM or eSIM
Phu Quoc airport has kiosks selling SIM cards, and carriers have retail stores across the country. Take your passport, since every SIM is registered to its user.
If your phone supports eSIM, you can arrive already connected. VietSim sells prepaid eSIMs on Viettel, VinaPhone and MobiFone, with the QR code on screen after payment. Install it at home using the eSIM setup guide, then follow activating on arrival when you land. Browse all plans in the Vietnam eSIM store, or weigh up a physical SIM card instead.
All three carriers serve the island. The ministry in charge of telecoms reported in July 2025 that 4G reaches 99.8 percent of Vietnam’s population. Island hopping and the south
Vietnam Tourism describes boat trips around the An Thoi archipelago, with islands such as Fingernail Island a short boat ride away, and a cable car over the southern islands from An Thoi. Day tours to these places are sold by travel agencies.
Before you head out:
- Screenshot tickets, pickup times and the tour operator’s number.
- Download an offline map covering An Thoi and the southern islands.
- Keep your phone in a dry bag on the boat.
Arriving at Phu Quoc airport
The airport is about 10 km south of Duong Dong, according to Vietnam Airlines and Visit Phu Quoc.
- Taxi: about 180,000 to 220,000 VND to Duong Dong, and about 250,000 VND to An Thoi, according to Visit Phu Quoc. Companies named include Xanh SM, Mai Linh, Vinasun and Nam Thang.
- Ride-hailing: about 150,000 to 220,000 VND to town, according to Vietnam Airlines. Pickups are outside the terminal, and the app needs data, so switch your eSIM on before you leave the arrivals hall.
- Public bus: a bus runs from the airport towards Duong Dong. Vietnam Airlines notes the stop can mean a walk of about 500 metres with luggage.
- Hotel pickup: Vietnam Airlines lists this as an option, priced by the hotel; ask when you book.

Getting around the island
Vietnam Tourism lists motorbike rental, local taxis, minibuses and coaches as ways to get around Phu Quoc. Visit Phu Quoc puts motorbike rental at about 120,000 to 150,000 VND a day.

Practical phone tips
- Offline maps: Download the whole island in Google Maps while you have Wi-Fi. Offline, Google Maps gives driving directions but no walking or transit directions, and downloads expire, so update them on a longer stay.
- Hotspot: Personal Hotspot needs a carrier and plan that support it. If you plan to share data with a laptop at the resort, check first, and see the FAQ.
- Card payments: Hotels, tour operators, restaurants and grocery stores generally accept international cards. Street vendors and small purchases are cash.
- Sharing one connection: compare pocket Wi-Fi or eSIM.
